The Detroit Red Wings are preparing for a match against the Philadelphia Flyers at Little Caesars Arena on Wednesday night. This game presents an opportunity for the Red Wings to level their season series with the Flyers, following a recent defeat.
Detroit, holding a record of 12-14-4 and 28 points, will face Philadelphia, which stands at 14-13-4 with 32 points. The game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m., with television coverage provided by TNT and MAX. Fans can also listen in on 97.1 The Ticket, the Red Wings' radio station.
Last week, Detroit lost to Philadelphia with a score of 4-1 at Wells Fargo Center. "A unique situation in that we just played them," said Derek Lalonde, head coach of the Red Wings. "A really good team. I like the depth of their lines...They have an ideal fourth line, so this will be a challenge for us."
Detroit aims to overcome this challenge as part of its three-game homestand, which began successfully with a victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs. Goalie Alex Lyon is set to return from injured reserve and start against the Flyers after recovering from a lower-body injury sustained on November 25.
“It always stinks [missing time],” Lyon remarked about his absence due to injury. “Obviously, being healthy is tied to your livelihood so it’s an important factor...Really happy to be going now.”
Lyon has recorded a 4-4-0 performance in nine games this season, with a goals-against average of 2.74 and a save percentage of .911.
“When you have an injury and a setback later, there’s nothing worse,” Lyon stated regarding his recovery process.
The Flyers also played last Saturday but suffered a loss against the Minnesota Wild. Their upcoming game against Detroit marks the beginning of back-to-back matches, as they will host the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday night.
“We have to play with a lot more energy,” commented Andrew Copp regarding their previous encounter with Philadelphia. “We didn’t get enough pucks on net to start and didn’t cause enough chaos.”
