Detroit City Football Club has announced the retirement of Nate Steinwascher, a significant figure in the club's history. Steinwascher, who debuted for Detroit City FC on May 18, 2016, against Louisville City FC in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup, played his final match in the 2024 USL Championship’s Eastern Conference Quarterfinal on November 2, 2024. This marked a period of 3,090 days between his first and last appearances for the team.
Throughout his career with Detroit City FC, Steinwascher witnessed and contributed to the club's growth from an amateur team in the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) to competing on national television in the USL Championship. He was also present during the club’s early days as a training player back in its inaugural season in 2012.
Since joining the USL Championship in 2022, Steinwascher made notable contributions with 226 saves and kept 30 clean sheets over three seasons. His performance is highlighted by a save percentage of 75.1% and a Goals Against per 90 average of 0.98.
In his retirement statement addressed to "Detroit City FC Family," Steinwascher expressed gratitude towards coaches, teammates, technical staff, supporters, and family members who supported him throughout his career. He mentioned looking forward to spending more time with family while continuing involvement with Detroit City FC and local soccer community activities.
Steinwascher will be honored at a home match during the upcoming season as part of 'Legends Night.' Fans can also meet him at an event scheduled at Detroit City FC Club Shop for releasing a limited edition pint glass.
