Red Wings assign Jack Campbell to Grand Rapids Griffins

The Detroit Red Wings have assigned goaltender Jack Campbell to the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League. Campbell, 32, began the 2024-25 season with the Griffins, where he has started two games, resulting in an 0-2-0 record with a 2.55 goals-against average and a .919 save percentage.

Last season, Campbell divided his time between the Edmonton Oilers and Bakersfield Condors in the AHL. With the Oilers, he made five appearances during the 2023-24 campaign. In contrast, he played 33 games with the Condors, achieving an 18-13-1 record along with a 2.63 goals-against average, a .918 save percentage, and three shutouts.

Campbell was originally selected by the Dallas Stars as their first-round pick (11th overall) in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. Throughout his career in the NHL with teams such as the Stars, Los Angeles Kings, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Oilers, Campbell has amassed a record of 93-52-18 over 176 appearances. He holds a career goals-against average of 2.76 and a save percentage of .909 while securing ten shutouts. Notably, he represented the Maple Leafs at the NHL All-Star Game in 2022.

In his AHL career spanning various teams including Texas Stars and Ontario Reign among others, Campbell boasts a record of 117-84-26 across 237 games with a goals-against average of 2.72 and a .911 save percentage alongside seventeen shutouts. He was part of Texas's Calder Cup-winning team in 2014.

Campbell hails from Port Huron, Michigan and played two seasons in the Ontario Hockey League before turning professional. His OHL tenure saw him earn a record of 45-29-11 over ninety-one appearances for Windsor Spitfires and Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds from 2010 to 2012.

Internationally, Campbell has been active representing Team USA at several events including IIHF World Championships where he won bronze in both World Junior Championships (2011) and Senior Championships (2015). He also clinched gold medals at World Junior Championship (2010) as well as back-to-back Under-18 Championships (2009 & '10), receiving MVP honors at latter tournament's edition.
