The Detroit Red Wings have announced the recall of goaltender Jack Campbell from the Grand Rapids Griffins, their American Hockey League affiliate, under emergency conditions.
Campbell, aged 32, has participated in two games with the Griffins at the start of the 2024-25 season. During these appearances, he recorded an 0-2-0 record with a goals-against average of 2.55 and a save percentage of .919. In the previous season, Campbell divided his time between the Edmonton Oilers and AHL's Bakersfield Condors. With five appearances for the Oilers in 2023-24, he achieved an 18-13-1 record with a goals-against average of 2.63, a save percentage of .918, and three shutouts over 33 games with the Condors.
Selected by the Dallas Stars as the 11th overall pick in the first round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, Campbell has accumulated a career record of 93-52-18 across his stints with teams such as the Stars, Toronto Maple Leafs, Los Angeles Kings, and Oilers. His career stats include a goals-against average of 2.76 and a save percentage of .909 over 176 appearances. Notably, he represented Toronto at the NHL All-Star Game in 2022.
In addition to his NHL experience, Campbell has played extensively in the AHL where he holds a record of 117-84-26 with a goals-against average of 2.72 and a save percentage of .911 over 237 games. He won a Calder Cup championship with Texas in 2014.
Born in Port Huron, Michigan, Campbell played two seasons in Ontario Hockey League before turning professional. Internationally, he has represented Team USA on multiple occasions including earning medals at IIHF tournaments: gold at World Junior Championships (2010), bronze (2011), and MVP honors at World Under-18 Championships (2010).
