The Detroit Red Wings faced a 2-1 defeat against the Colorado Avalanche at Little Caesars Arena on Saturday night. Despite a solid defensive performance, the Red Wings were unable to convert enough offensive opportunities.
"Very frustrating once again," Moritz Seider commented. "You do a lot of good things, but not over a span of 60 minutes. That'll cost you against a really good team."
Ville Husso, Detroit's goalie, made 23 saves as the team remained winless in its last five games. Meanwhile, Colorado's goaltender Alexandar Georgiev stopped 29 shots.
"Probably take our 5-on-5 game tonight against a team like that," said Red Wings head coach Derek Lalonde. "Hold them to two goals, probably out-chanced them fairly good. Just got to do more to find a way to flip some of these games. That's a frustrating one. We got to stay at it."
The Avalanche took an early lead with Valeri Nichushkin scoring in the first period and Cale Makar extending the lead with a power-play goal in the second period.
Lucas Raymond managed to reduce the deficit for Detroit by scoring late in the second period.
"The last 10 minutes in the second [period], we found another gear," Seider noted. "We kept the lines rolling and kind of dominated there a little bit. Scored a great goal, but then we couldn't really capitalize on the third."
Despite coming close to equalizing towards the end of regulation time, Detroit could not break through Georgiev's defense.
"Our margin of error is extremely thin right now," Lalonde stated. "We can't lose moments in the game."
Detroit has lost its last seven games by just one goal each time, which has been frustrating for both players and coaches.
"I think no one is happy in the locker room," Seider expressed. "Why should we [be]? We're losing games that are winnable."
Looking ahead, Detroit will aim for victory against Buffalo Sabres on Monday night.
Lalonde reflected on their current situation: "You go through these stretches, this has been a unique one...bottom line is we got to do more to flip these games."
J.T. Compher emphasized unity within the team: "You have to stick together...It's there for the taking...it's got to be the guys to step up and get the job done."
Compher also remarked on how Colorado limited Detroit's offense: "It's something we can learn from...They stayed aggressive on us."
