The Detroit Red Wings have activated forward Tim Gettinger from the injured non-roster and assigned him to the Grand Rapids Griffins in the American Hockey League (AHL).
Gettinger, aged 26, spent the previous season with the Griffins, where he accumulated 25 points and 20 penalty minutes over 55 games. Standing at 6-foot-6 and weighing 217 pounds, he also contributed in eight Calder Cup Playoff games, aiding the team in reaching the Central Division Finals. During the 2022-23 season, Gettinger played for the Hartford Wolf Pack in the AHL, recording 35 points with a plus-four rating across 52 regular-season games and adding eight points in nine postseason contests.
Originally drafted by the New York Rangers as their fifth-round pick (141st overall) in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft, Gettinger has appeared in parts of four seasons with them from 2018 to 2022. He recorded one assist over 16 NHL games. In his AHL career with both Hartford and Grand Rapids since the 2018-19 season, he has compiled a total of 158 points along with accumulating significant penalty minutes.
Before joining professional ranks, Gettinger played four seasons with Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), where he notched up impressive stats including being named to OHL's First All-Rookie Team during his debut season. The Cleveland native also represented Team USA internationally at events such as the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament.
