The Detroit Red Wings concluded their four-game road trip with a 5-4 overtime loss to the San Jose Sharks at SAP Center. Despite the loss, the Red Wings managed to secure one point, ending their trip with a 1-2-1 record.
Cam Talbot, the Red Wings' goalie, made 29 saves during the game. "I give our guys some credit to hang in there," said Red Wings head coach Derek Lalonde. "Talbot made some key saves there in the third period."
Dylan Larkin scored first for Detroit, marking his team-leading 11th goal of the season. William Eklund equalized for San Jose with a power-play goal. Marco Kasper restored Detroit's lead before the first intermission.
San Jose tied it again in the second period through Eklund. Michael Rasmussen put Detroit back ahead briefly before Tyler Toffoli leveled it again for San Jose late in the second period. Luke Kunin gave San Jose a lead in the third period, but Alex DeBrincat scored late to send the game into overtime.
Macklin Celebrini scored just 46 seconds into overtime to secure victory for San Jose. "It's always hard going home after the West," said Larkin as he reflected on their return journey.
The Red Wings will host the New York Islanders next at Little Caesars Arena on Thursday, marking Pavel Datsyuk Hockey Hall of Fame Night.
