The Detroit Red Wings have announced the assignment of defenseman William Lagesson to the Grand Rapids Griffins in the American Hockey League. Lagesson, 28, has accumulated five points and a plus-10 rating over 11 games with the Griffins at the start of the 2024-25 season.
During the previous season, Lagesson split his time between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Anaheim Ducks. He contributed four assists and a plus-five rating in 30 games with Toronto before joining Anaheim for 10 games. Additionally, he made appearances with the AHL's Toronto Marlies, where he recorded one assist.
Lagesson was initially drafted by the Edmonton Oilers in 2014. His NHL career includes stints with several teams such as the Oilers, Montréal Canadiens, Maple Leafs, and Ducks. Throughout his AHL career, Lagesson has played for various teams including Bakersfield Condors and Chicago Wolves.
Before turning professional, Lagesson spent two seasons at the University of Massachusetts. He also represented Sweden internationally at multiple championships.
