The Detroit Red Wings secured a 3-2 overtime victory against the Pittsburgh Penguins at PPG Paints Arena on Wednesday night. This win came after a previous shutout loss to the New York Rangers, with Simon Edvinsson scoring the decisive goal just 1:30 into overtime.

Reflecting on the team's performance, Edvinsson said, "I don’t know how many chances we had [on Saturday], and we didn’t put the puck in the net. Now we got a few, and we won. Of course, it felt good. I think we’re going to travel to California with a smile and good feeling going into these next games."

Goalie Cam Talbot was instrumental in breaking Detroit's two-game losing streak by making 32 saves and achieving his 250th career NHL win. Meanwhile, Alex Nedeljkovic of Pittsburgh managed 28 saves for his team.

Derek Lalonde, head coach of the Red Wings, commented on their performance saying, "For the most part, our first 30 minutes was a continuation of where we were the other night versus New York... There are nights you play Pittsburgh that Sidney [Crosby] and [Evgeni] Malkin look like they’re going to take the game over, and this was one of those nights. I give our guys credit -- it’s tough to check those guys."

In an intense match-up, Jonatan Berggren opened scoring for Detroit early in the second period with assistance from Vladimir Tarasenko and Jeff Petry. Berggren remarked on his goal saying, "That was a really good feeling... lucky to get the first one."

Detroit extended their lead when Patrick Kane scored during a power play assisted by Dylan Larkin and Lucas Raymond. Bryan Rust quickly responded for Pittsburgh by cutting down Detroit's lead before Anthony Beauvillier tied it up later in the second period.

The game remained scoreless through regulation time until Edvinsson clinched victory in overtime with assists from Alex DeBrincat and Kane.

Looking ahead, Detroit will start their California road trip against Anaheim Ducks on Friday night.
