The Detroit Red Wings have recalled goaltender Ville Husso from the Grand Rapids Griffins under emergency conditions. Husso, 29, has started one game with the Red Wings in the current season. He has recorded a 2-0-0 standing with a 1.23 goals-against average and a 0.958 save percentage in three games with the Griffins.
In the previous season, Husso appeared in 19 games for Detroit, securing a 9-5-2 record with a 3.55 goals-against average and an 0.892 save percentage. During his time with Grand Rapids last January, he stopped all shots against Belleville Senators during a conditioning stint.
Originally drafted by St. Louis Blues in the fourth round of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, Husso's career includes stints with both Blues and Red Wings since the 2020-21 season, accumulating various records across different leagues.
A Helsinki native, Husso played for HIFK in Finland before moving to North America. He was recognized as part of SM-Liiga All-Star Team and awarded as top goaltender during his final season there.
Internationally, Husso represented Finland at multiple championships including IIHF World Championship and World Junior Championships where he earned medals for his performances.
