The Detroit Red Wings secured a 4-1 victory against the Chicago Blackhawks at the United Center on Wednesday night. The win marked their second consecutive triumph, bolstered by timely goals and strong defensive play. Goalie Cam Talbot contributed significantly with 28 saves, earning his fourth win of the season.
"This one feels good," Talbot remarked. "We talked about coming in here and establishing a good road game. We got six of our next seven [games] on the road, so that started tonight. We needed to put a good foot forward, and we did that tonight."
Head coach Derek Lalonde acknowledged that while the Red Wings (6-5-1; 13 points) were not flawless against the Blackhawks (5-8-1; 11 points), they managed to secure the win. "It was just one of those nights where we had the puck a lot, so I think we got a little careless with it," Lalonde said. "But on the whole, we'll certainly take that – winning on the road, especially in this league."
Alex DeBrincat opened scoring for Detroit with a rebound goal just before the first intermission. This extended his point streak to three games and brought his total to 11 points in 12 games.
"[DeBrincat’s goal] was huge in the fact that we didn’t have a very good period," Lalonde noted.
Nick Foligno tied it for Chicago early in the second period, but Dylan Larkin restored Detroit's lead shortly after with an impressive individual effort.
"I didn't know that I was," Larkin commented regarding his three-game goal streak. "It's just going in."
Joe Veleno increased Detroit's lead early in the third period with his first goal of the season, assisted by Moritz Seider and Michael Rasmussen.
Lalonde praised Veleno's effort: "I liked the play... I'm glad we got rewarded for it."
Andrew Copp sealed Detroit's victory with an empty-net goal late in regulation.
Lucas Raymond assisted Copp's goal, extending his own point streak to three games.
Larkin emphasized recent improvements: “We didn’t get the goal [on the man advantage] that we wanted [on Wednesday], but at least we generated some momentum.”
Detroit will face off against Toronto Maple Leafs next at Scotiabank Arena on Friday night.
