The Detroit Red Wings are set to begin a challenging stretch of games against fellow Original Six teams, starting with a visit to the Chicago Blackhawks at United Center on Wednesday. This game marks the beginning of three matches in four nights for the Red Wings, who will also face the Toronto Maple Leafs and New York Rangers later in the week.
The matchup will be broadcast on TNT and streamed on MAX, with radio coverage by Ken Kal, Paul Woods, and Daniella Bruce on the Red Wings Radio Network.
Detroit's current record stands at 5-5-1, identical to that of their upcoming opponents, the Blackhawks. The team is aiming to build on their recent victory over the Buffalo Sabres where captain Dylan Larkin scored twice on power plays and goalie Cam Talbot made 31 saves.
"Any team can win on any given night," said Joe Veleno. "It doesn’t matter the opponent. We need to have the same mentality and game plan going into it."
Head coach Derek Lalonde indicated that Cam Talbot would start as goalie against Chicago, likely maintaining the lineup from their last game. "We’re leaning towards the same six [defensemen]," Lalonde noted.
Patrick Kane, who played 16 seasons with Chicago, expressed his excitement about returning to his former home. "So many great memories and unbelievable moments," Kane remarked.
Chicago enters this match riding a two-game winning streak after victories over Anaheim Ducks and Los Angeles Kings. Goalie Arvid Soderblom contributed significantly with 37 saves in their latest win.
Connor Bedard leads Chicago's scoring with 12 points this season. Ryan Donato and Seth Jones follow closely behind with nine points each.
"Seems like [the Blackhawks] are doing a little bit better this year," Kane added. "I know they’ve won a couple games in a row here in Anaheim and L.A."
