Ryan Oshnock, head coach of Grand Rapids Northview High School, has been named the Detroit Lions High School Football Coach of the Week for week seven. The Wildcats achieved a 12-3 victory over Grand Rapids Catholic Central, marking their first 7-0 start since 1977 and only the fourth time in school history. Northview is currently ranked third in Division 2. Their next game is against Holland Christian on October 18th.

Oshnock is in his fourth season as head coach at Northview and his thirteenth overall as a high school football coach. This recent win was his fiftieth as a head coach. His previous coaching roles include positions at Grand Rapids Forest Hills Northern, Holland West Ottawa, and assistant roles at James F Byrnes High School in South Carolina, as well as collegiate positions at Central Michigan, Cincinnati, Ferris State, and Eastern Michigan.

The Detroit Lions Football Education team interviewed Oshnock about the victory and his approach to coaching during their **Head Coach Hangout** segment. The full interview can be accessed on www.DetroitLions.com/coachoftheweek.

The High School Football Coach of the Week Program recognizes coaches who demonstrate success both on and off the field while developing players' character and skills with an emphasis on health and safety. A panel consisting of Mick McCabe (Detroit Free Press), Hugh Bernreuter (Saginaw News), Bret Bakita (WOOD Radio-106.9 FM), James Cook (Traverse City Record-Eagle), and Scott DeCamp (DeCamp Creative Solutions) selects each week's winner.

This program will distribute $12,000 this season to support high school football in Michigan through contributions from the Detroit Lions and NFL Foundation. Each weekly winner receives a $1,000 donation for their school's football program. At season's end, one coach will be named Coach of the Year with an additional $3,000 award for their program.

In its 28th year, this initiative has provided $503,000 to high school football programs across Michigan. For more details about the program or to contact Chris Fritzsching from Lions' Football Education, email chris.fritzsching@lions.nfl.net.
