Detroit City FC has announced the launch of its 2025 Academy Program, which will feature four teams comprising U14 and U16 boys and girls. These teams will participate in upcoming competitions in Louisville, Kentucky. The U16 boys and girls will compete in the LouCity-Racing College Showcase, while the U14 boys and girls will take part in the LouCity-Racing Turf Classic.
The competition dates are as follows: U16 Girls from February 7 to 9, U16 Boys from February 21 to 23, U14 Girls from February 28 to March 2, and U14 Boys from March 14 to 16. Eligibility requires players to be registered with DCFC youth clubs located in various regions including City, Downriver, Genesee, North, South Oakland, or West.
Training sessions are scheduled once a week on Friday evenings at Detroit City Fieldhouse starting December 13. The training times are set for U14 boys and girls from 5:00-6:30 pm and for U16 boys and girls from 6:30-8:00 pm. Boys' and girls' teams will train separately.
Roster selections will be made internally by Detroit City FC youth clubs alongside Detroit City FC. Selected players will receive invitations in November for tryouts taking place on December 1 at High Velocity Sports in Canton.
Tyler McManus, Director of Youth Development at Detroit City FC stated, “Detroit City FC youth clubs around the region are growing with talent every year. It is our goal to give youth players who are committed to growing in their future soccer careers another opportunity to receive high-level coaching and meaningful contacts directly with the Detroit City FC youth player pathway.”
Families of selected players must cover travel and lodging expenses for competitions held in Louisville. However, Detroit City FC plans to collaborate with competition directors for discounted hotel rates and assist with shared transportation options if needed.
Financial aid based on need is available through an application process that considers household income and dependents.
McManus further added, “This program is a scouting ground that is in close collaboration between the pro organization and DCFC youth clubs. We hope to someday see more DCFC youth club players representing DCFC II and onto the first teams.”
