Matt Swain, head coach at Romulus Summit Academy North High School, has been recognized as the Detroit Lions' High School Football Coach of the Week for week six. Swain's team, the Dragons, secured a decisive 48-12 victory over Detroit University Prep Science and Math, marking their first 5-0 start since 2020. The upcoming game will see them face Michigan Collegiate High School on October 12th.

Swain is in his seventh season as head coach at Romulus Summit Academy North and has achieved a record of 48 wins to 18 losses. Under his leadership, the team has reached the playoffs five times in six full seasons. Before joining Romulus Summit Academy North, Swain served as an assistant coach at various schools and was previously the defensive coordinator at his current school.

The Detroit Lions Football Education interviewed Swain about his team's recent win and upcoming challenges against Michigan Collegiate. His selection as Coach of the Week was announced during Head Coach Hangout.

The High School Football Coach of the Week program honors coaches who demonstrate success both on and off the field. A panel consisting of Mick McCabe, Hugh Bernreuter, Bret Bakita, James Cook, and Scott DeCamp selects each week's winner. This initiative aims to support high school football in Michigan with $12,000 in funding from the Detroit Lions and NFL Foundation.

Each weekly winner receives a $1,000 donation for their school's football program. At season's end, a Coach of the Year will be named with an additional $3,000 award. Winners also receive certificates signed by Dan Campbell and Roger Goodell.

Now in its 28th year, this program has contributed $503,000 to high school football programs across Michigan. For more details on this initiative, Chris Fritzsching can be contacted at chris.fritzsching@lions.nfl.net.
