The Detroit Red Wings are set to face the Nashville Predators at Bridgestone Arena on Saturday afternoon. Both teams are expected to bring high intensity and a sense of urgency to the game, according to Red Wings head coach Derek Lalonde.
Detroit, with a record of 1-3-0, and Nashville, standing at 0-4-0, will begin their match at 2 p.m. ET/1 p.m. CT. The game will be broadcast on Bally Sports Detroit and the Red Wings Radio Network.
“It's just frustrating that we are where we are with our results,” Lalonde commented. “I think there's two teams that are going to be playing a very desperate, important game early on.”
The Red Wings are embarking on their first multi-game road trip of the season after losing twice this week to the New York Rangers. They were defeated 4-1 at Madison Square Garden on Monday and then lost 5-2 at Little Caesars Arena on Thursday.
Lalonde described Thursday’s loss as “a really frustrating, tough-to-evaluate night.” He noted that despite having higher expected goals and more chances than their opponents, they struggled significantly in special teams play.
On Friday morning, Marco Kasper was recalled from the American Hockey League’s Grand Rapids Griffins due to potential injuries affecting Tyler Motte and Andrew Copp.
Jeff Petry is set to return for Saturday's game after missing two games due to an upper-body injury. Goalie Alex Lyon will start against Nashville.
“Eleven [forwards] and seven [defensemen] is definitely in play,” Lalonde said regarding lineup considerations.
Lyon emphasized maintaining a steady mindset amid early-season challenges: “When you win, you can’t get too high... not getting too low when you lose.”
Nashville recently lost 4-2 against the Edmonton Oilers. Filip Forsberg leads their team in points this season with four.
Reflecting on their previous encounter with Nashville where Detroit won 3-0, Dylan Larkin stated: “We battled and blocked shots... Our details were better.”
