The Detroit Red Wings secured a 5-2 victory over the Nashville Predators at Bridgestone Arena, marking their second win against the Predators in a week. Goalie Alex Lyon made his second start of the season, recording 37 saves for the Red Wings. Juuse Saros, goaltender for Nashville, finished with 19 saves.
Red Wings head coach Derek Lalonde commented on the team's performance: “Just a positive win. I thought it took everyone in the lineup. Obviously Alex Lyon was excellent." He noted that despite recent losses to New York, the team responded well with this victory.
The game saw Luke Schenn score first for Nashville before Vladimir Tarasenko equalized for Detroit. Marco Kasper earned his first NHL point with an assist on Tarasenko's goal. Dylan Larkin then gave Detroit its first lead during a power play in the second period.
Lyon made a crucial save during a 5-on-3 penalty kill but Steven Stamkos managed to tie the game early in the third period. Andrew Copp restored Detroit's lead shortly after and added an empty-net goal later, along with Simon Edvinsson, securing the final scoreline.
Copp reflected on breaking their losing streak: “Everything gets magnified early in the season... It was good to right the ship.” The Red Wings are set to face off against the New York Islanders next.
Coach Lalonde praised Nashville despite their current record: “This is a really good team... they’re going to be right there.” He also highlighted Marco Kasper’s impact and expressed confidence in his potential: "Loved it. Trust him in every situation."
Andrew Copp spoke about playing with urgency and praised Kasper's contributions: “He played with a lot of pace... he’s going to be a good player for a long time.”
