Chad Miller, head coach of West Branch Ogemaw Heights High School, has been recognized as the Detroit Lions High School Football Coach of the Week for week five. Miller's team achieved a 41-34 victory over Clare, marking their first 5-0 start since 2007. The Falcons are currently ranked eighth in Division 5 and will face Midland Bullock Creek Lancers on October 4th for their Homecoming game.
Miller is in his sixth season with Ogemaw Heights, boasting a record of 35-18 and leading the team to playoffs in four out of five seasons. Before joining Ogemaw Heights, he served as an assistant coach at St. Clair High School and Algonac High School.
The Detroit Lions Football Education conducted an interview with Miller about his recent victory and upcoming games. His reaction to being named Coach of the Week can be viewed on the team's website.
The High School Football Coach of the Week Program honors coaches who excel both on and off the field. A panel comprising Mick McCabe, Hugh Bernreuter, Bret Bakita, James Cook, and Scott DeCamp selects each week's winner. The program awards $12,000 annually to support high school football in Michigan through contributions from the Detroit Lions and NFL Foundation.
Each weekly winner receives a $1,000 donation for their school's football program. At season's end, one coach will be named Coach of the Year with a $3,000 award for their school. Winners also receive certificates signed by Dan Campbell and Roger Goodell.
Now in its 28th year, this initiative has distributed $503,000 to high school football programs across Michigan. For more details on the program, contact Chris Fritzsching at chris.fritzsching@lions.nfl.net.
