The Detroit Red Wings have announced the recall of defenseman Justin Holl from the Grand Rapids Griffins, their American Hockey League affiliate. Concurrently, goaltender Carter Gylander has been reassigned to the Toledo Walleye in the ECHL.
Justin Holl, aged 32, contributed five assists and maintained a plus-eight rating during his 38 games with the Red Wings in the 2023-24 season. Prior to that, he spent a full season with the Toronto Maple Leafs where he recorded 18 points and a plus-15 rating across 80 regular-season games. His postseason contributions included one assist over eight contests.
Holl was originally drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks as their second-round pick (54th overall) in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. Throughout his career since 2017-18, he has accumulated 87 points and maintained a plus-66 rating over 323 games with both Toronto and Detroit.
In addition to his NHL experience, Holl has played extensively in the AHL for teams like Rockford IceHogs and Toronto Marlies. Notably, he helped lead the Marlies to a Calder Cup championship in 2018. He began his professional journey with ECHL's Indy Fuel during the 2014-15 season.
A native of Tonka Bay, Minnesota, Holl is an alumnus of the University of Minnesota where he competed for four seasons before going pro. During his collegiate career, he notched significant achievements including two Frozen Four berths for his team and winning Big Ten’s inaugural regular-season title.
