Kyle Rowley, the head coach of Armada High School's football team, has been named the Detroit Lions High School Football Coach of the Week for week four. Under his leadership, Armada's Tigers achieved a 42-0 victory against Richmond, marking their third consecutive shutout and improving their season record to 4-0. The team is currently ranked ninth in Division 5 and will face Yale Bulldogs on September 27th.
Rowley is in his fifth year as head coach at Armada and has an overall record of 26-16. He previously coached at Hazel Park for six years and served as an assistant at Oxford High School under his father, Bud Rowley. Notably, Bud was also recognized by the Detroit Lions during week one of the 2007 season.
In an interview with Detroit Lions Football Education, Rowley discussed the team's defensive strength and shared insights about working alongside his father on the coaching staff. His selection as Coach of the Week was announced on "Head Coach Hangout," available for viewing online.
The High School Football Coach of the Week Program honors coaches who excel both on and off the field by fostering player development and emphasizing health and safety. A panel comprising high school football media members selects each week's recipient. This initiative includes a $12,000 contribution from the Detroit Lions and NFL Foundation to support Michigan high school football programs.
Each weekly winner receives a $1,000 donation to their school's football program. At season's end, a Coach of the Year will be chosen to receive a $3,000 donation. All awardees receive certificates signed by Dan Campbell and Roger Goodell.
Now in its 28th year, this program has distributed $503,000 to support high school football across Michigan. For more information, contact Chris Fritzsching at chris.fritzsching@lions.nfl.net.
