Detroit City FC managed to secure a 2-2 draw against Charleston Battery despite being down to ten men for much of the second half. The match, held in Charleston, saw Stephen Carroll open the scoring with a header in the second half. However, after a red card and two goals from Charleston, Laurent Kissiedou equalized with a shot from outside the box during stoppage time.
Head coach Danny Dichio maintained his starting lineup from their previous victory against Monterey Bay FC, with Abdi Salim joining the bench due to Matt Sheldon's unavailability. The first half was largely defensive for Detroit as Charleston dominated possession.
In the 27th minute, a significant attack by Charleston required Nate Steinwascher to deflect the ball away, followed by Devon Amoo-Mensah making a goal-line clearance. The first half also saw several yellow cards issued to both teams.
At halftime, Detroit substituted Elvis Amoh for James Murphy in an effort to enhance their attack. This strategy paid off when Carroll scored in the 49th minute from a corner delivered by Alex Villanueva. Despite further opportunities, Detroit's Connor Rutz received a red card in the 59th minute after colliding with Charleston's goalkeeper Adam Grinwis.
Charleston capitalized on their numerical advantage and was awarded a penalty in the 71st minute following contact by Amoh. Nick Markanich converted it to level the score at 1-1. Juan Torres then put Charleston ahead in the 84th minute.
In response, Detroit introduced Laurent Kissiedou for Abdoulaye Diop in the 88th minute. Kissiedou scored his first goal for Detroit during stoppage time after combining with Amoh.
The match concluded after eleven minutes of added time, leaving Detroit one point closer to securing a playoff spot. They remain third in the Eastern Conference with three matches left and will face Indy Eleven next Saturday at Keyworth Stadium.
