The Detroit Red Wings are set to face the Ottawa Senators in their final home game of the preseason on Friday night at Little Caesars Arena. The game will start at 7 p.m., with coverage available on Bally Sports Detroit and the Red Wings Radio Network.
The Red Wings aim to recover from a recent 2-0 loss against the Toronto Maple Leafs, where Cam Talbot made 23 saves for Detroit. Throughout Training Camp, the team has been integrating new players and building team chemistry. Erik Gustafsson, who joined the Red Wings in July with a two-year contract, expressed feeling welcomed by his teammates.
“Ever since I came here, all the guys have been open arms and helped me with whatever I need,” Gustafsson said. “Great couple of weeks before Training Camp started, so I felt very comfortable before that even started."
Gustafsson noted that this year's Training Camp has been particularly challenging but beneficial for preparing for the season.
“Every practice has been tough,” he stated. “That’s what Training Camp is for. I’ve been around a couple of teams, and this has been the hardest camp I’ve been part of. It’s good. Gets you ready for when the season starts and the preseason games like today.”
With Opening Night approaching, Gustafsson emphasized focusing on head coach Derek Lalonde’s system.
“Everyone has to be on the same level,” he said. “I know we’re going to be ready when the puck is dropped next week... What you can see in practice, you can kind of feel that everyone is ready to have the season get going now.”
