Goalie Ville Husso played a crucial role in the Detroit Red Wings' 2-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins at PPG Paints Arena on Tuesday night. Husso made 43 saves, showcasing his readiness for the upcoming season.

“I felt good,” said Husso. “After that first game I played in Chicago, I hadn’t played for a long time before that, so it was easy to come in today. We’ve had a good Training Camp so far. [The Penguins] pretty much had a full NHL roster, but we did a good job all night.”

Red Wings head coach Derek Lalonde expressed satisfaction with Husso's performance, stating it was planned for him to play the entire game. “Really, really promising,” Lalonde commented on Husso’s efforts. “Good sign for him to be that sharp throughout the entire 60 minutes, and it was good volume. A good battle for him, a good test, and he certainly passed it tonight.”

The Penguins dominated early with a 14-4 shot advantage in the first period, but Husso managed to keep them scoreless after making several key saves including one against Sidney Crosby.

Rickard Rakell scored first for Pittsburgh early in the second period. However, Amadeus Lombardi quickly equalized for Detroit just over a minute later with an assist from Hunter Johannes.

“I loved the play,” Lalonde remarked about Lombardi’s goal. “He had some poise... He’s progressing extremely well over the last two years... It’s a good sign for him going forward.”

Nate Danielson secured Detroit's win by scoring at 17:11 of the third period following an assist from Michael Brandsegg-Nygard.

“I feel pretty confident,” Danielson said postgame. “I think I can still get better... but I think I’m getting better every game.”

Lalonde praised his team's effort saying they deserved their win due to their competitive spirit throughout the match.

“I loved our compete,” Lalonde stated. “Obviously Ville was a big difference in the game tonight... But moving camp forward we’d like a little more compete.”

The Red Wings will next face off against Toronto Maple Leafs as part of their exhibition schedule.
