The High School Football Coach of the Week Program recognizes one coach each week during the regular season who demonstrates success on and off the field while emphasizing player health and safety. The selection panel includes Mick McCabe (Detroit Free Press), Hugh Bernreuter (Saginaw News), Bret Bakita (WOOD Radio-106.9 FM, Fox 17/Grand Rapids), James Cook (Traverse City Record-Eagle), and Scott DeCamp (DeCamp Creative Solutions).
This program will distribute $12,000 to support high school football development in Michigan this season, funded by contributions from the Detroit Lions and the NFL Foundation. Each weekly winner receives a $1,000 donation to their school's football program, with an additional $3,000 awarded to the Coach of the Year at season's end. Winners also receive certificates signed by Lions' head coach Dan Campbell and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.
Now in its 28th year, the Detroit Lions High School Coach of the Week program has awarded $503,000 to high school football programs across Michigan. For more information, contact Chris Fritzsching at chris.fritzsching@lions.nfl.net.
