DETROIT – The Detroit Red Wings have released their 2024 NHL Prospect Games roster and schedule for the event, which will take place on Saturday, Sept. 14 and Sunday, Sept. 15 at Centre ICE Arena in Traverse City, Mich. The team comprises 24 recent draft picks, free agent signees, and tryouts who will compete against prospects from the Dallas Stars.

The roster includes first-round picks from the last two NHL Entry Drafts: center Nate Danielson (9th overall, 2023) and right wing Michael Brandsegg-Nygård (15th overall, 2024). Danielson split the 2023-24 season between the Western Hockey League’s Brandon Wheat Kings and Portland Winterhawks, recording 67 points (24-43-67), a plus-26 rating, and 42 penalty minutes in 54 regular-season games. He also tallied 24 points (7-17-24) in 18 postseason matchups with the Winterhawks and made his professional debut with the American Hockey League’s Grand Rapids Griffins during the Calder Cup Playoffs.

Brandsegg-Nygård spent most of the 2023-24 campaign with Mora IK in Sweden’s second-highest professional league, where he logged 18 points (8-10-18), a plus-three rating, and 19 penalty minutes in 41 regular-season games. Additionally, he collected ten points (4-6-10) in twelve postseason contests with Mora IK. Brandsegg-Nygård also recorded twelve points (5-7-12) with Mora IK’s under-20 team in Sweden’s top junior league. A native of Oslo, Norway, he became the first Norwegian-born player to be selected in the first round of an NHL Entry Draft.

Other notable players include defenseman Shai Buium (36th overall, 2021), who helped the University of Denver win its second NCAA Division I National Championship in three seasons; center Emmitt Finnie (201st overall, 2023), who led the WHL’s Kamloops Blazers before making his professional debut with the Griffins; center Ondřej Becher (80th overall, 2024), who amassed significant points with the WHL’s Prince George Cougars; and right wing Jakub Rychlovský, who signed a two-year entry-level contract after leading Czechia’s top professional league with twenty-six goals during the last season.

Seven of the twenty-four players on this year's roster are former Red Wings draft picks. They range from eighteen-year-olds chosen at this year’s draft to a twenty-three-year-old seventh-round pick from 2019.

Historically at Centre ICE Arena prospect events, seven hundred seventy-two players have advanced to play at least one NHL game. Thirteen played for Detroit during the previous season: Jonatan Berggren; Ben Chiarot; Alex DeBrincat; Simon Edvinsson; Robby Fabbri; Ville Husso; Klim Kostin; Dylan Larkin; Michael Rasmussen; Lucas Raymond; Moritz Seider; Joe Veleno; and Jake Walman.

The Red Wings and Stars will face off twice during this event: on Saturday at six p.m., followed by another game on Sunday at two-thirty p.m.

Both games will be streamed live on DetroitRedWings.com and across Red Wings social media platforms including Facebook and YouTube. Commentary will be provided by Ken Kal and Bob Kaser.
