Detroit City FC faced Pittsburgh Riverhounds in a closely contested match on Wednesday night, concluding in a 0-0 draw. Despite dominating significant portions of the game and creating several scoring opportunities, Detroit was unable to break the deadlock.
Head Coach Danny Dichio made five changes to the starting lineup from their previous match against Rhode Island FC, which also ended in a draw. The new starters included Alex Villanueva, Matt Sheldon, Ryan Williams, Ben Morris, and Jeciel Cedeño.
The first half saw limited action with numerous fouls disrupting the flow of play. Detroit managed three shots in the final 20 minutes of the half. Ben Morris had an early chance from a corner set piece that went over the crossbar. Elvis Amoh had two opportunities; his first attempt was saved by Pittsburgh's goalkeeper, while his second shot went wide just before halftime.
The second half continued with few clear chances for either side. Pittsburgh's Kenardo Forbes tested Detroit's goalkeeper Nathan Steinwascher with a free kick in the 62nd minute. Michael Bryant nearly scored for Detroit with a header from a set piece but missed narrowly.
In the closing minutes, Pittsburgh threatened again through set pieces but were denied by Detroit's defense. Ryan Williams had one last opportunity for Detroit with a shot on target that required a save from Pittsburgh’s keeper.
Detroit will embark on a three-match road trip starting against Las Vegas Lights on August 10th at 10:30 p.m. ET.
