Detroit City FC to host Pittsburgh Riverhounds in crucial midweek contest, airing nationally on CBS Sports

DETROIT— Detroit City FC concludes a two-match home stand on Wednesday with an Eastern Conference clash against Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 PM EDT and will be broadcast nationally on CBS Sports Network.

Detroit enters this important match following a 1-1 draw against USL Championship newcomers Rhode Island FC, played in front of its largest-ever national TV audience on Saturday. Detroit’s persistent pressure resulted in a goal by Ben Morris in the 77th minute, giving Le Rouge a temporary lead. However, Rhode Island equalized in the 3rd minute of stoppage time with a strike from Clay Holstead just outside the box, leading to shared points.

The draw extends Detroit’s winless streak to six games, comprising three draws and three losses.

Pittsburgh appears to be gaining momentum after a rough start to the season, having won three out of their last five matches. The Riverhounds come into this game following a 1-0 road victory against Sacramento Republic FC on Saturday. Despite Sacramento dominating possession, an Edward Kizza goal in the 43rd minute secured the win for Pittsburgh.

In their previous encounter back in April at Highmark Stadium, Detroit City's perfect start to the season ended with a 2-0 loss. Patrick Hogan scored for Pittsburgh in the 20th minute, followed by a Daniel Griffin penalty conversion in the 35th minute that sealed the victory for the Hounds.

Detroit City has only one prior win against Pittsburgh, which was significant as it came during a 1-0 road victory in the first round of the 2023 USL Championship Playoffs.

Following this match, Detroit City embarks on a three-match road trip starting in Las Vegas on Saturday night. Kickoff from Cashman Field is set for 10:30 p.m. Le Rouge will return to Keyworth Stadium on August 24th against FC Tulsa.
