DETROIT — Detroit City Football Club announced today the acquisition of 24-year-old forward Jeciel Cedeño from Oakland Roots SC for an undisclosed fee. Cedeño has arrived in Detroit and will be available for selection for Wednesday’s trip to Hartford Athletic.
Born in Ecuador, Cedeño moved to New Jersey at age 12. He returned to Ecuador at 16 to try out for the Barcelona de Guayaquil academy, where he played for three seasons.
He later joined the New York Red Bulls Academy, making the U19 team for the 2019 season and his first professional start with New York Red Bulls II against Atlanta United II in June 2019. However, he was not offered another contract at the end of that season.
After the COVID-19 pandemic, Cedeño signed with Hartford Athletic following successful open tryouts. He spent nearly three seasons there before being traded to Oakland Roots SC on June 8, 2023.
At Oakland, Cedeño appeared in 42 matches, scoring four goals and assisting two.
Detroit City FC takes over Cedeño’s current contract, which is valid through this year with an option for next season. He will wear #23 for Detroit City FC.
