Originally selected by Arizona in the second round (32nd overall) of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, Fischer has amassed a total of 130 points (61-69-130) and served 133 penalty minutes across 477 games with both the Coyotes and Red Wings since his debut in the 2016-17 season. Additionally, Fischer recorded 50 points (22-28-50) and accumulated 28 penalty minutes in 63 American Hockey League games with the Springfield Falcons and Tucson Roadrunners from 2015 to 2017. He also competed in the AHL All-Star Classic in 2017.

Before turning professional, Fischer played for the Ontario Hockey League’s Windsor Spitfires during the 2015-16 season, where he collected an impressive tally of 90 points (40-50-90), maintained a plus-minus rating of plus-35, and incurred 34 penalty minutes over the course of 66 games. He also added three points (1-2-3) during five postseason contests that year.

The Chicago native skated with the U.S. National Team Development Program from 2013 to 2015, scoring a total of 106 points (50-56-106) along with serving out penalties amounting to a total of forty-five minutes over one hundred twenty games. On an international level, Fischer won gold medals representing Team USA at both the IIHF World Under-18 Championship in 2015—where he gathered eight points (1–7–8)—and at the World Under–17 Hockey Challenge in 2014—where he notched six points (2–4–6).
