Detroit City FC will host Birmingham Legion FC in a nationally televised USL Championship matchup on Wednesday night. The game is set to kick off at 7:00 PM EDT at Keyworth Stadium and will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network.
Detroit City FC, known as Le Rouge, is coming off a notable 1-0 victory against Pumas UNAM from Mexico's Liga MX in an international friendly. The match saw Detroit City break through Pumas's defense in the 54th minute with a goal by new signing Abdi Salim, who headed the ball into the net from a free kick.
Abdi Salim joined Detroit City FC on loan from Orlando City SC of Major League Soccer earlier this week. Salim has also represented the Somali National Team and will remain with Detroit City for the rest of the season.
Birmingham Legion enters this contest following a 3-0 win over San Antonio FC last Wednesday. Birmingham's goals came in quick succession during the second half, with Alex Crognale scoring in the 51st minute, Tabort Etaka Preston adding another four minutes later, and Tyler Pasher sealing the victory with a goal in the 87th minute.
In the Eastern Conference standings, Detroit sits in fifth place with 23 points from 12 games played, while Birmingham is close behind in sixth place with 21 points from 14 games played. Historically, Detroit has had success against Birmingham since joining the USL Championship in 2022, maintaining a record of 4-0-0 against them.
Following Wednesday's game, Detroit City faces another short turnaround as they travel to Miami to play Miami FC on Saturday at 7:00 PM EDT. They return to Keyworth Stadium on July 6th for a match against Eastern Conference rivals Tampa Bay Rowdies. Tickets for all Detroit City matches are available at www.detcityfc.com/tickets.
