Le Rouge aimed to establish their dominance early as the match commenced. Emily Pagett floated a chipped through ball into the path of Kayla Addison in the second minute, nearly resulting in a goal if not for crucial last-ditch defending from Kalamazoo.
Following this chance, Kalamazoo quickly found themselves in dangerous positions within Detroit's defensive half, earning two corners in quick succession that required saves from Gabby Schriver. In the 11th minute, DCFC opened the scoring after a brilliant pass from Acadia Murphy. Murphy clipped a ball over the Kalamazoo backline that fell perfectly to Addison, who needed only one touch to guide it into the net. This marked Addison’s third goal in as many games.
The opening goal motivated Le Rouge further, leading them to create several dangerous opportunities soon after, though they were unable to add a second goal immediately. In the 30th minute, following a DCFC corner kick, Tatiana Mason added a second for DCFC with a left-footed effort from a Kalamazoo clearance at the top of the 18-yard box.
Five minutes later, Le Rouge nearly scored again through Addison who broke into Kalamazoo's 18-yard box but her shot lacked sufficient power to beat Kalamazoo’s keeper. In the 41st minute, Kalamazoo had their best chance of the half with an effort from 20 yards out that found its target but posed no significant threat to Schriver.
Kalamazoo started the second half similarly with a dangerous chance down the right flank in the 50th minute which Murphy cleared effectively. Three minutes later, another attempt by Kalamazoo inside DCFC’s 18-yard box was met by Schriver’s gloves. Following this effort, DCFC counterattacked rapidly ending in an Addison shot saved by Kalamazoo.
In the 66th minute, Kalamazoo continued seeking a way back into the game with a cross finding an attacker whose header hit off the crossbar. From this rebound, Le Rouge counterattacked through Ella Kane who squared it to Hannah Crum; her shot forced an excellent save from Kalamazoo’s keeper.
In the 78th minute, another sight of goal for Kalamazoo saw an effort struck off volley at Detroit City's 18-yard box parried away by Schriver. The final ten minutes saw desperate attempts by Kalamazoo to claw back into contention but Le Rouge’s defense remained solid securing all three points for Detroit.
This victory concludes Detroit's record at Keyworth Stadium this year as flawless at 6-0-0. DCFC returns to USLW League action on June 25 against Midwest United in Kentwood, Michigan with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m., marking an important match for Detroit City’s playoff aspirations.
