Detroit City FC returns to Keyworth Stadium this Saturday after a four-game road trip to face the 2023 Eastern Conference Champions, Charleston Battery. Le Rouge enters this match following a 2-0 road victory at Rhode Island FC. A sequence of passes led to Maxi Rodriguez scoring just before halftime, giving Detroit a 1-0 lead. The team doubled their lead in the 64th minute with a goal from Victor Bezerra, assisted by Ben Morris.

Morris and Rodriguez were named to the USL Championship Team of the Week for Week 14 due to their performances. Morris was noted for his defensive efforts, winning two tackles and making 14 recoveries. Rodriguez completed 32 of 37 passes and won six out of eight duels.

Last Saturday’s match also marked the return from injury of forward Elvis Amoh, who made his first appearance since April 6 against North Carolina FC.

Charleston Battery enters this game in second place in the Eastern Conference. They are coming off a 0-0 draw against Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC. Charleston started the season with a 12-match unbeaten streak in the USL Championship before it was ended by El Paso Locomotive FC at the end of May.

Attacker Nick Markanich has been instrumental in Charleston’s success this season with his league-leading 12 goals and three assists.

Charleston Battery is coached by former Detroit City head coach Ben Pirmann, who led DCFC from 2013 to 2018 with a regular-season record of 49-17-17.

The teams faced off twice last season; Charleston won their match at Keyworth with a goal in the 71st minute, while their reverse fixture ended in a goalless draw.

Next Saturday, DCFC will host Liga MX side Pumas UNAM for an International Friendly at Keyworth Stadium—the first since 2019. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m., and tickets are available at www.detcityfc.com/tickets.
