Detroit City FC creates plenty of chances, fails to score any, draws 0-0 on the road to Cleveland Force SC
Jun 12, 2024
Cleveland, Ohio — Detroit City FC dominated for 90 minutes but could not find the goal they needed as they left Cleveland with only one point.
Detroit immediately established themselves as the dominant side with key chances falling to Washington and Hannah Crum in the first five minutes of the game. As the match settled, Le Rouge found themselves with the majority of possession while trying to break down a defensively disciplined Cleveland.
In the 25th minute, Kayla Addison fired a shot that glanced off Cleveland’s post. Le Rouge continued to pressure Cleveland's defense. In the 37th minute, a cross from Tefend nearly found Sabo at the back post for what would have been a guaranteed goal. The final action of the first half saw Kate Childers line up a shot from 20 yards out that demanded secure hands from Cleveland's keeper.
In the second half, Le Rouge continued their dominance. In the 49th minute, Crum found Addison at the back post; Addison’s effort glanced just wide of the post. Thirteen minutes later, Addison again created problems with a shot on target that required a big save from Cleveland’s keeper.
In the 65th minute, DCFC had two more significant chances to take the lead: A one-on-one with Addison was halted by a sweeping clearance from Cleveland’s keeper; moments later another long shot effort from Childers flew just wide of Cleveland’s post. Ten minutes later, Drew Martin fired a shot on target that was met by a diving save from Cleveland’s keeper.
The match's final ten minutes saw Le Rouge create more dangerous chances that went begging. In the 82nd minute, Adelle Francis found Addison in the box whose effort called for another impressive save from Cleveland’s keeper. Five minutes later Addison had her final chance in a one-on-one situation but was once again denied by an impressive clearance.
