Wayne State University Warriors Football issued the following announcement.
The 2020 squad had the second-most Excellence Team selections (9) in program history.

Named to the GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team for maintaining a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.5 were graduate student Jackie Feist (Beverly Hills, Mich. / Birmingham Groves), senior Teresa Diehl (St. Clair Shores, Mich. / Warren Regina), juniors Isabella Bertolini (New Baltimore, Mich. / Anchor Bay), Lyndsey Braman (Flint, Mich. / Powers Catholic), Emma Willett (Holgate, Ohio) and Gabbi Willett (Holgate, Ohio), and sophomores Yasmine Affes (Northville, Mich.), Miranda Banks (Carleton, Mich. / Airport) and Aliyah McDonald (Kingston, Jamaica / Immaculate Conception).
Diehl (Physical Therapy) was honored for the third time in outdoor track, while Bertolini (Sociology Honors), Braman (Public Health), and the Willett twins (Secondary Education) were recognized for the second consecutive year in outdoor track. Affes (Kinesiology), Banks (Communication Science Disorders) and McDonald (Kinesiology Honors) were eligible for the first time this year. In addition, Feist (Doctorate of Pharmacy) received her ninth All-Academic honor, including seventh on the All-Academic Excellence team when including cross country and indoor track, along with the outdoor track recognitions.
WSU had six members of the women's outdoor track and field team collect All-Academic Team accolades for having a cumulative GPA between 3.0 and 3.49. They were juniors Raven Tatum (Farmington Hills, Mich. / North Farmington) and Jada Weatherspoon (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Skyline), and sophomores Ashley Defrain ( Fort Gratiot, Mich. / Port Huron Northern), Teanna McCuaig (Sparta, Mich. / Kent City), Izzy Taylor (Three Rivers, Mich.) and Chloe Wandell (Muir, Mich. / Ionia).
Weatherspoon (Political Science) was recognized for the second time, while, Defrain, McCuaig, Taylor and Wandell were eligible for the first time this year as was Tatum, after transferring to WSU in the fall of 2018.
Wayne State set a school record during the 2019-20 academic year with 206 GLIAC All-Academic honorees shattering the previous mark of 186 set during the 2016-17 academic year.
