The sale of recreational marijuana in metro Detroit will now have to wait even longer, as the City Council has postponed lifting the ban until spring, according to The Detroit News.
Councilman James Tate originated the idea of extending the ban, stating that there should be a “pathway for Detroiters to be gainfully employed,” before it is lifted, The Detroit News reported.
“The rush is really trying to get it right, not get it done,” said Tate, according to The Detroit News. “I’m not going to push an ordinance that is not ready. Detroit has had a situation where financially, the economic downturn was drastic… this is an opportunity for us to make our residents whole.”
The Council unanimously voted, despite locals expressing their frustration about the pushback as they believe it is hindering business opportunities. Still, some were appreciative that the Council is being adamant about its standards before lifting the ban.
