Senator Joseph Bellino has expressed his approval of a state grant awarded to the River Raisin Watershed Council in Adrian. The grant is intended to aid the council’s conservation and educational initiatives.
“This grant will help the River Raisin Watershed Council in its efforts to promote the connection between the quality of our outdoors and the quality of our lives in Michigan,” stated Bellino, R-Monroe. “Through education, volunteer cleanups, outdoor recreation and more, the public service nonprofit organization will help improve our region for years to come, and I applaud them for earning this competitive grant.”
The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy (EGLE) provided a $39,984.75 grant to the council. This funding was part of a larger initiative where 17 recipients across the state received watershed council grants capped at $40,000 each. Recipients are required to complete their projects within one year.
The grants can be used for various purposes including outreach and educational activities, water quality improvement and monitoring, as well as purchasing necessary equipment and supplies.
In addition to the River Raisin Watershed Council’s award, other local grants included $39,259.28 for the Calhoun Conservation District in Marshall and $39,998.52 for Friends of the Detroit River in Taylor.
