State Representative Rylee Linting has cast a significant vote in favor of increasing funding for schools in the Downriver area. This decision is part of a broader K-12 state education budget plan aimed at enhancing educational outcomes for students.

The new budget, set to take effect from October 1st, raises per-pupil funding to $12,000, an increase from the previous amount of $9,608. The additional funding of over $2,000 per student is attributed to strategic budgeting efforts that eliminate bureaucratic obstacles and unnecessary program requirements.

In Linting’s House District in Wayne County, the following increases have been allocated:

– Gibraltar School District: $6,123,415
– Grosse Ile Township Schools: $1,681,482
– Riverview Community School District: $5,241,194
– Southgate Community School District: $6,973,369
– Trenton Public Schools: $4,110,523
– School District of the City of Wyandotte: $6,341,830

“One of my top priorities when I came to Lansing to serve as a voice for our communities was to make sure our students and schools are supported,” stated Linting from Grosse Ile Township. “This record funding will give our next generation the tools they need to prepare for their futures while empowering educators and local administrators.”

Linting emphasized that this plan recognizes the unique challenges faced by different schools and provides them with resources and flexibility to implement necessary changes. She noted that each district can allocate funds according to its specific needs—be it mental health resources or school safety improvements.

Additionally, the proposal includes a substantial grant program worth $314.5 million aimed at reducing class sizes and improving reading measures among other infrastructure projects.

The budget proposal will now proceed to the Senate for further consideration.
