State Representative Rylee Linting has proposed funding initiatives aimed at enhancing the quality of life in Downriver communities. These proposals are part of the state budget process for the upcoming fiscal year, marking a new level of transparency as every request for dedicated funding is now publicly accessible.
“People I talk with throughout our communities want better local roads and bridges, energy reliability and strong public safety investments so people feel safe in their homes and neighborhoods,” said Linting, representing Grosse Ile Township. “As we continue budget discussions and right-size state spending to respect taxpayers, these issues are ones that must be at the forefront. As we go forward, I’ll continue fighting for resources that support our Downriver community.”
One key proposal involves replacing the West Road bridge in Trenton. The bridge’s deteriorating condition has led to lane closures, causing traffic congestion and safety concerns. A $10 million allocation would allow Wayne County to start construction on a new bridge within the next fiscal year.
Linting is also advocating for funds to address critical infrastructure needs on Middle Gibraltar Road Bridge in Gibraltar and two bridges serving Grosse Ile Township residents. The township recently acquired a toll bridge through a millage passed by residents but requires repairs to remain operational. The second bridge, free for motorists, is owned by Wayne County which seeks funds for its replacement. Linting has requested $40 million for these projects to ensure continuous access to the island.
Additional funding requests include projects such as increasing electric capacity in Wyandotte with natural gas engines, installing new water mains, updating first responder radios in Southgate, and acquiring new vehicles and equipment for first responders in Riverview and Gibraltar.
