The Detroit Red Wings have completed a trade to acquire goaltender John Gibson from the Anaheim Ducks. In return, the Ducks will receive goaltender Petr Mrázek, a second-round pick in the 2027 NHL Entry Draft, and a fourth-round pick in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft.

John Gibson, aged 31, achieved an 11-11-2 record with a goals-against average of 2.77 and a save percentage of 0.912 over 29 games during the 2024-25 season with Anaheim. During this period, he reached his 200th career NHL win and marked his participation in his 500th game. His overall record includes a total of 204 wins, placing him second among all-time netminders for the franchise.

Gibson was initially selected by Anaheim as their second-round pick (39th overall) in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. Throughout his career with Anaheim, he has been recognized at three NHL All-Star Games and received accolades such as being named to the NHL All-Rookie Team in the 2015-16 season.

Before joining professional leagues, Gibson played two seasons with Ontario Hockey League’s Kitchener Rangers and represented Team USA on various international stages. He notably won gold medals at both the IIHF World Junior Championships and IIHF World Under-18 Championship.

The trade signifies a significant change for both teams as they adjust their rosters ahead of future seasons.
