The Detroit Red Wings have signed forward Carter Bear to a three-year, entry-level contract. The 18-year-old was chosen by the Red Wings in the first round (13th overall) of the 2025 NHL Entry Draft, which took place at L.A. Live’s Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles on June 27-28.

Bear, who stands 6 feet tall and weighs 179 pounds, participated in Detroit’s Development Camp from June 30 to July 3 at the BELFOR Training Center inside Little Caesars Arena. During the 2024-25 season, he played with the Western Hockey League’s Everett Silvertips. He led his team with 40 goals and ranked among the leaders with 42 assists and a total of 82 points over 56 games. His performance earned him a spot on the WHL’s Western Conference Second All-Star Team.

Bear spent the previous season entirely with the Silvertips, accumulating 57 points in regular-season games and contributing four assists in nine postseason contests. Over his career with the Silvertips since the 2022-23 season, Bear has achieved a total of 141 points.

Originally from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Bear played for the Winnipeg Thrashers in the Manitoba U18 Hockey League during most of the 2022-23 season. He was named Most Valuable Player and secured a place on the league’s First All-Star Team after scoring 59 points in regular-season games. In earlier seasons, he also played for Team Manitoba at the WHL Cup.
