The Detroit Red Wings earned a 3-0 shutout victory against the New Jersey Devils at Prudential Center on March 9, opening their four-game road trip with strong performances from several players.

This win is significant for Detroit as it moves the team back into third place in the Atlantic Division and surpasses its total number of road wins from last season. The Red Wings are recognized as one of the Original Six teams in the National Hockey League and have a history of success, including 11 Stanley Cup championships, according to the official website.

Head coach Todd McLellan said, “I couldn’t be happier. The group played pretty smart hockey. We checked for our chances and took advantage of a few of their mistakes; a fairly simple game. That’s the way we’re going to have to play. I thought we got real good goaltending from both [John Gibson and Cam Talbot]. I thought Justin Faulk made a big difference. He settled a lot of things down. We got contributions from all the lines. Some guys played 20 minutes, other guys played 10, but the minutes they played were important.”

Moritz Seider led with three points, scoring early in the first period and assisting on two more goals. Seider said, “We’re going to be in those situations a lot down the stretch, and we just got to play with confidence. Obviously, it’s nice getting the first one. It relaxes everything a little bit.” Dominik Shine scored his first career NHL goal in the third period and said, “There’s a ton of guys like me who work their ass off in the American League… Do whatever it takes…grind, fight. It just feels really good.”

Justin Faulk made his debut for Detroit by blocking four shots and recording four hits during nearly twenty minutes on ice time. Faulk said, “It’s a good group… There’s definitely some veterans in here too that’ll help lead the way with that.”

Detroit has long been known for its legacy as an elite American franchise within professional hockey according to its official website. The team hosts games in downtown Detroit and represents Detroit, Michigan according to its official website.

Looking ahead, Detroit will continue its road trip with games against Florida teams next week.
