The Detroit Red Wings were unable to complete a season sweep against the Vegas Golden Knights, falling 6-3 at T-Mobile Arena. Head coach Todd McLellan commented on the team’s performance, saying, “I thought we were good offensively to win and not close enough defensively to win.” He noted that while the team scored two power-play goals, their penalty kill struggled.

Goalie Cam Talbot made 29 saves for Detroit, which had previously shut out Vegas in a 3-0 victory six days earlier. Alex DeBrincat scored his 32nd goal of the season and expressed disappointment in the team’s defensive efforts: “As forwards, we got to do a better job to block those shots and take away sticks in front of the net.”

Detroit took an early lead with a power-play goal by Lucas Raymond. However, Vegas quickly responded with Tomas Hertl scoring twice in the first period. Despite successfully challenging an offside call that negated Nicolas Hauge’s goal, Nicolas Roy put Vegas ahead 3-1 just before the end of the first period.

Patrick Kane reduced Detroit’s deficit early in the second period with his 18th goal of the season. However, Mark Stone and Hertl extended Vegas’ lead again shortly after. DeBrincat narrowed it down once more with a third-period goal but was unable to close the gap further.

An empty-netter from Jack Eichel sealed Vegas’ victory. Dylan Larkin acknowledged challenges faced by Detroit: “When you play good teams and you give them chances like that…it’s frustrating.”

Looking forward, DeBrincat emphasized urgency as they approach their next game: “Thirteen games are a lot…every game is a must-win now.” The Red Wings will visit Delta Center for their next matchup against Utah Hockey Club.
