The Detroit Red Wings will face the New Jersey Devils in their final regular-season home game at Little Caesars Arena on Saturday, April 11, as part of Eras Night: People of Hockeytown. The matchup comes as Detroit remains in contention for an Eastern Conference Wild-Card spot.
The game holds significant importance for the Red Wings and their fans as every point is crucial in their push for a playoff berth. Carter Mazur said, “It’s do-or-die now for the rest of the way until the end, and we need to win every single game because every point really matters. We got to show up for the fans and get it done for them.”
Detroit enters Saturday’s contest with a record of 41-29-9 (91 points), while New Jersey stands at 40-36-3 (83 points). Boston Bruins and Ottawa Senators currently occupy the two Wild-Card spots ahead of Detroit. Head coach Todd McLellan said, “Ottawa is going to do their own thing, and whatever the outcome is, the outcome is… Any result that Ottawa has, we’ll still have to play and win.”
Recent performances have given Detroit momentum; Moritz Seider and captain Dylan Larkin led a strong offensive showing in Thursday’s 6-3 victory over Philadelphia Flyers that ended a five-game home winless streak. Mazur said about team leadership, “When the leaders take over, it’s easy to follow them… Hopefully, they keep it going and we keep following them.” McLellan added that Thursday’s win provided an emotional boost: “Just like losing can take you down, I think winning can lift you up. But you can’t just do it one night. We got to keep doing it and see where it takes us.”
The Devils were eliminated from playoff contention earlier this week but remain competitive with Jack Hughes leading in points (73) and Jake Allen expected in goal.
The Red Wings are recognized as one of hockey’s most storied franchises; they have won 11 Stanley Cup championships according to their official website. They play home games in downtown Detroit according to their official website and are known as one of the Original Six teams according to their official website. The team represents Detroit, Michigan according to their official website.
Looking ahead, McLellan emphasized focus on his own squad: “If I have to give them a message to make them aware of where they’re at … forget about where Jersey’s at,” he said. “It’s about where we’re at and what we need to get done.”
