The Detroit Red Wings will face the Florida Panthers at Amerant Bank Arena on March 10 as part of their four-game road trip. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. puck drop and will be broadcast on FanDuel Sports Network Detroit and the Red Wings Radio Network.
This matchup is significant as both teams are fighting for playoff positioning late in the season. Justin Faulk said, “Every game is important and means something. Not to say that the others don’t throughout the year, but these [late-season] ones are of huge importance. Everyone is fighting. All the little details matter. You want to be feeling good going into the playoffs, too. You got to get there first, but you want your game to be sharp and it’s all the little things that kind of get you that momentum and it slowly builds.”
The Red Wings (36-21-7; 79 points) recently lost to the Panthers (31-29-3; 65 points) at Little Caesars Arena but started their current road trip with a shutout win over the New Jersey Devils. In that game, Faulk made his debut for Detroit while Moritz Seider contributed three points, and James van Riemsdyk and Patrick Kane each had two points. Dominik Shine scored his first career NHL goal during this victory, saying, “I thought we played decent games against Vegas and Florida. We didn’t get the wins, so we just kept it really simple. I think we were really good on the forecheck, which made it easy for our D to pinch down and create some offense. I thought we did a really good job.”
Goaltenders John Gibson and Cam Talbot shared duties in net against New Jersey after Gibson was injured late in the second period but will return as starter against Florida according to head coach Todd McLellan. Captain Dylan Larkin remains sidelined with a lower body injury but continues traveling with the team for treatment. McLellan said about Larkin: “Dylan is still on the trip with us… Obviously, he isn’t going to play here tonight… Maybe we’ll have a better update then too.” David Perron is also nearing his season debut after recovering from injury.
Faulk described facing Florida as challenging: “It’s always a fun one to play against a team like this… Those guys aren’t going to give us an easy night, that’s for sure.” He added about their style: “They’re aggressive. They play hard… Five-on-five, they’re all over you… And obviously, we know their skill up front is pretty elite.”
