Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, representing Michigan’s 12th district, has voiced strong opposition to a proposed budget plan through a series of tweets. Known for her advocacy on social and economic issues, Tlaib expressed her concerns regarding the implications of the budget on vulnerable populations.

On July 2, 2025, Tlaib criticized the budget proposal as “the largest cut to Medicaid and food assistance in history to give billionaires a tax break.” She made clear her stance by stating, “I’m voting HELL NO.”

Later that day, she reiterated her disapproval by describing the proposal as “the largest transfer of wealth from poor and working people to the rich in history.” Tlaib emphasized its impact on healthcare access by noting that it would remove 17 million Americans from their health care plans. She described it as “a gift to Trump’s billionaire donors.”

On July 3, 2025, Tlaib further condemned the bill as “an act of violence against our communities,” highlighting its potential consequences amid significant income inequality. She noted that “60% of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck,” stressing that this budget could be devastating for working families.

Tlaib has been serving in Congress since 2019 after replacing Brenda Jones. Prior to this role, she served in the Michigan House of Representatives from 2009 to 2014. Born in Detroit in 1976, she holds degrees from Wayne State University and Thomas M. Cooley Law School.
