Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, representing Michigan’s 12th district since 2019, recently addressed several pressing issues via her Twitter account. Born in Detroit in 1976 and holding degrees from Wayne State University and Thomas M. Cooley Law School, Tlaib is known for her advocacy on social justice matters.

On June 6, 2025, Congresswoman Tlaib expressed concern about the ongoing water crisis in Flint, Michigan. She tweeted, “A reminder that Flint still doesn’t have clean drinking water, nor have they gotten any justice. I sat down with Flint residents who want Congress to do more. There was a $600 million settlement, but after years, those funds have still not been distributed. Shameful.”

Later that day, she criticized the University of Michigan for allegedly using private investigators against its students. Her tweet stated: “This is outrageous. @UMich spent $800,000 on private investigators to stalk and harass its own students for their stance against genocide.”

Additionally, as Chair of the Mamas’ Caucus, Tlaib led an initiative addressing concerns with the Department of Health and Human Services regarding formula safety operations. In her post, she wrote: “As Chair of the Mamas’ Caucus, I led a letter demanding answers from the Department of Health and Human Services on their reckless launch of ‘Operation Stork Speed’ while gutting the very staff who ensure formula safety. Parents deserve access to safe, affordable formula.”

Rashida Tlaib has served in various political capacities over her career and continues to advocate for constituents’ rights in her current role.
