U.S. Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, who represents Michigan’s 12th district, announced on social media the allocation of millions of dollars in federal funding for community projects in Detroit and throughout her district. In a series of posts on September 2 and 3, Tlaib also addressed concerns regarding immigration enforcement activities in Michigan.

On September 2, Tlaib wrote: “We’ve brought home $19,254,097 for 14 community projects in Detroit! This funding will improve the lives of our neighbors by providing home repairs, affordable housing, lead abatement, flood recovery resources, workforce development, and access to affordable health care.”

In a subsequent post made the same day, she provided further details: “And here are the projects funded throughout the 12th District. We secured $17.1 million for 15 community projects for lead removal, home repairs, affordable housing, flood recovery resources, and more! Since I’ve been in Congress, we’ve brought home over $52 million.”

On September 3, Tlaib shifted focus to immigration enforcement by federal authorities: “Masked ICE agents have abducted at least 1,400 of our neighbors in Michigan—ripping people out of the arms of their family members, terrorizing our communities, and turning our country into a fascist police state. The cruelty is the point. Abolish ICE.”

Tlaib has represented Michigan’s 12th district since replacing Brenda Jones in Congress in 2019. She previously served as a member of the Michigan House of Representatives from 2009 to 2014. Born in Detroit in 1976 and currently residing there at age 46, Tlaib earned her BA from Wayne State University and her JD from Thomas M. Cooley Law School.
