Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, representing Michigan’s 12th district, recently shared her perspectives on several pressing issues via social media. A member of the U.S. Congress since 2019, Tlaib is known for her active engagement in both local and international matters.

On July 8, 2025, Tlaib expressed her honor at attending a memorial for WWII Staff Sergeant Essie Dell O’Bryant Woods. She noted that Woods was “a lifelong Detroiter and member of the 6888th,” highlighting the significance of this all-Black women’s unit deployed overseas during World War II. “Her powerful legacy lives on.”

The following day, July 9, 2025, Tlaib criticized the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS), referring to it as “illegitimate.” She claimed that it continues to serve former President Donald Trump’s interests by undermining federal agencies and threatening jobs crucial to public services. “We need to end this court’s corrupt grip on our democracy.”

Later on July 9, she addressed international concerns regarding Gaza. Tlaib accused world leaders of failing to act against what she described as “the Israeli apartheid regime’s genocide in Gaza.” She commended South Africa and Colombia’s Hague Group for their efforts to address these issues while criticizing U.S. government actions against international law. “South Africa and Colombia’s Hague Group is taking action to save lives.”

Tlaib has been an influential figure since replacing Brenda Jones in Congress in 2019. Born in Detroit in 1976, she holds degrees from Wayne State University and Thomas M. Cooley Law School.
