Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, who represents Michigan’s 12th district in the U.S. Congress, has recently used her social media platform to address several policy issues and legislative efforts.

On September 5, 2025, Tlaib criticized the Department of Justice under former President Trump and advocated for transparency regarding the Jeffrey Epstein case. She stated, “This is the bs Trump’s DOJ sent the Oversight Committee. They’re not fooling anyone. I signed the discharge petition to force a vote to release the full unredacted Epstein files. Survivors of Epstein’s abuse deserve the truth. It’s time to end the coverup.”

Later that day, she addressed concerns about disaster recovery funding from FEMA and its limitations on covering basement damage due to flooding. Tlaib wrote on September 5, 2025: “No one should be left with toxic mold, no hot water, or broken furnaces after a disaster because FEMA funding doesn’t cover basements, which are most vulnerable to flood damage.

My Fix Our Flooded Basements Act fixes this.”

On September 6, 2025, Tlaib highlighted her engagement with senior residents regarding recent changes in Medicaid and food assistance programs. She posted: “Keeping our seasoned residents engaged! So grateful for everyone who showed up to learn more about the Medicaid and food assistance cuts that will directly impact them. We must protect access to health care and ensure seniors can age with dignity.”

Tlaib has served as a member of Congress since 2019 after succeeding Brenda Jones in representing Michigan’s 12th district. Prior to her tenure in Congress, she was a member of the Michigan House of Representatives from 2009 through 2014. Born in Detroit in 1976 and currently residing there at age 46, Tlaib holds degrees from Wayne State University (BA) and Thomas M. Cooley Law School (JD).
