Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, who represents Michigan’s 12th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of statements on January 21, 2026 addressing transparency regarding Jeffrey Epstein and opposing efforts to allow medical debt on credit reports.
In her first post of the day, Tlaib wrote: “We should hold anybody connected to Epstein in contempt who will not give us information. The survivors deserve transparency and justice.” (January 21, 2026).
Later that evening, she commented on former President Donald Trump’s actions concerning state laws about medical debt reporting: “Trump is trying to overturn 15 state laws that ban medical debt on credit reports. I’m leading my colleagues in opposition because no one chooses to get sick and seeking medical care should never haunt someone financially. Medical debt has no place on our credit reports.” (January 21, 2026). She followed this statement by sharing a link for further reading: “Read the full letter here:

Tlaib has represented Michigan’s 12th district since replacing Brenda Jones in Congress in 2019 and previously served in the Michigan House of Representatives from 2009 to 2014. Born in Detroit in 1976, she continues to reside there and holds degrees from Wayne State University and Thomas M. Cooley Law School.
